Earlier this year, I finally ticked off the Island of Spice - Grenada. Kicking off my trip with a few nights at Mount Cinnamon, a boutique hotel I’ve had my eye on for years, was the perfect start.
Just 15 minutes from the airport, Mount Cinnamon is a stunning intimate boutique hotel perched on the hillside overlooking gorgeous Grand Anse Beach. As a self-confessed beach snob, let me tell you - this two-mile stretch of golden sand did not disappoint.
The property itself felt like it was designed just for me. Tropical plants and palm trees line every path, creating an intimate and lush setting.
Be warned: if you’re staying in one of the suites or villas at the top of the hill (as I did), you might need a little stamina to get back up there after breakfast! But fear not - the lovely staff are more than happy to zip you around in their mini-buses if the hike isn’t for you.
I stayed in a Cinnamon Suite at the top of the property, and wow, what a view!
With over 500 square feet, floor-to-ceiling windows and a covered balcony, it was light, airy, and had all the calming Caribbean vibes I could hope for.
Families or groups might opt for one of the larger villas or suites - plenty of space for everyone to spread out.
Most guests seemed content lounging on the beach, but there’s also a pool if that’s more your thing.
Down by the beach, the “Beach Cabana” serves food and drinks from 10am until sundown, and occasionally for dinner too. One night, I enjoyed the most delicious King Fish - kudos to the chef! The main restaurant, Savvy’s, serves farm-to-table meals for breakfast and dinner, and the food was excellent throughout.
What really stood out were the thoughtful little touches - the homemade biscuits at turndown, the warm and personable staff, and even a candle-making class that added a fun twist to my stay. Oh, and they give you a phone at check-in so you can reach them anytime - talk about service!
I opted for the bed-and-breakfast option to explore local dining spots, and a quick hint if you’re visiting: Umbrella’s Beach Bar is just a short stroll from the hotel. It’s the perfect laid-back Caribbean spot for a relaxed meal.
Some people are put off by Grenada because there’s no direct flight, but honestly, the one-hour touchdown in St Lucia or Antigua (where you stay on the plane) isn’t a big deal. Once you arrive, you’re rewarded with a beautiful, lush island filled with waterfalls, organic farms, and vibrant local culture.
Highlights for me included exploring the charming town of St. George’s, picking up local spices and chocolate, and driving around this easy, safe island - it’s a dream for independent travellers like me.
In short, Grenada and Mount Cinnamon are now firmly on my list of favourite Caribbean gems. Whether you’re after relaxed beach days, a touch of adventure or just some well-earned downtime, this island and hotel deliver. I couldn’t be happier to recommend it to anyone looking for a slice of Caribbean bliss. Please get in touch for more details.
