Susan’s Blog: First Look - New Sandals and Beaches Resorts in the Caribbean

Now and again, or perhaps a little more often after a lengthy pandemic, a complete chill holiday where you can just switch off is just what is required.

From personal experience, I can advocate that this is highly achievable from a Sandals Resort holiday.

It’s stress-free, you can eat and drink what you want, when you want, and concentrate on the task at hand: to simply relax. You can do as little or as much as you like when it comes to a comprehensive choice of activities, and I have always found the staff extremely accommodating.

I never worry about clients when they stay at a Sandals (even during a pandemic) or the family-friendly Beaches Resorts. They are always well looked after, have well-appointed accommodation and the resorts have everything they need and even things they did not know they needed!

The Caribbean is a pretty nice place too, so am very excited that there are a bunch of new Sandals and Beaches resorts on the horizon, including no less than THREE distinct resorts in gorgeous Jamaica: Sandals Dunn’s River, Sandals Royal Dunn’s River and Beaches Runaway Bay.

My future holiday list has just increased. Here’s what is coming...

Drawing inspiration from the local flora, rivers, and natural landscapes, these all-new resorts will feature innovative designs that bring guests closer to nature, as well as new restaurant concepts with an organic farm-to-table approach.

Sandals Dunn’s River & Sandals Royal Dunn's River

The all-new Sandals Dunn’s River will receive a top-to-bottom renovation and is scheduled for an autumn 2022 opening.

In addition to cascading waterfalls at the entrance, it will offer a total of 260 rooms, including 48 signature SkyPool Suites, a first for Jamaica, which will feature a private cantilevered, solar-heated plunge pool with infinity edge.

12 Swim-up Rondoval™ Suites, many featuring a rooftop terrace will also grace the property, along with ten restaurants, including a specialty rum bar inside Sandal’s newest Latin Fusion restaurant concept, Azuka, nine bars, seven pools, including two river pools and the Red Lane Spa.

The adjacent oceanfront land will be transformed into Sandals Royal Dunn’s River, a modern luxurious escape featuring 250 lavish rooms and suites which will follow during 2023. Like the Sandals resorts in Barbados, exclusive exchange privileges will be available between these sister resorts.

Beaches Runaway Bay

The spirit of Jamaica and the magic of the woodlands is the perfect backdrop for Beaches' newest resort. The Runaway Bay Resort is a renowned hotel located midway between Ocho Rios and Montego Bay which will undergo extensive redevelopment and renovation to become the all-new Beaches Runaway Bay, featuring an estimated 400 expansive one, two, three, and four-bedroom family-friendly suites designed with extended families in mind.

The resort will feature dedicated wellness areas and exciting new activities such as skateboarding, bike trails, a climbable treehouse plus guests will also have access to Runaway Bay Golf Club and its par-72, 18-hole championship golf course.

Sandals Royal Curaçao

Scheduled for opening in April 2022 and now booking with some fantastic 'grand opening' offers for bookings made by 2 November 2021, is the Sandals Royal Curaçao, the group’s 16th resort and first in the Dutch Caribbean region in the southern Caribbean Sea.

Located just 15 miles from the airport and situated on 44 acres of land within the Santa Barbara private estate, an exclusive 3,000-acre protected nature reserve, Sandals Royal Curaçao will intertwine natural world wonders – desert, ocean, mountains, and shoreline – with the renowned all-inclusive luxury Sandals experience.

Couples will be able to discover the beauty and geographic diversity of Curaçao, known for its adventurous terrain, pristine beaches, limestone caves and vibrant city, Willemstad, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, whilst the resort’s west-facing position captures the allure of one of the Caribbean's most spectacular and romantic sunsets.

Sandals Royal Curaçao will include two new signature suite categories, the Awa Seaside Butler Bungalows and Kurason Island Poolside Butler Bungalows, complete with Tranquility Soaking Tubs™, private pools, butler service, and sporty and stylish convertible MINI Coopers, complimentary for guests to drive while exploring the island.

The resort will also house the brand's first 'Dos Awa infinity pool' with views overlooking the sea and the mountain landscape, and The Duchess, Sandals' first-ever floating restaurant and bar, constructed from a 92-foot authentic Dutch ship.

With nine on-site 5-Star Global Gourmet™ restaurants, guests can indulge in international flavours from a melting pot of global cuisine, including an authentic wine and Dutch cheese bar.

Couples can also dine on the go at three new beachside gourmet food trucks offering traditional Curaçao fare, Spanish tapas and Asian fusion, or grab a drink at any of the resort's ten unique bars.

A luxurious Red Lane® Spa with six outdoor spa cabanas and treatment rooms, expansive swimming pools, access to the neighbouring 18-hole Pete Dye championship golf course, two on-site marinas, and 70 dive sites are additional features along with three oceanfront wedding venues, maintaining Sandals dedication to romance.

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

The fifth of the forthcoming new hotels will be a welcome addition to the Beaches Resorts family with an exciting opening in a new destination for the group, the magnificent islands of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Aside from being irresistibly stunning and pristine, these islands are part of an archipelago chain known as the “Jewels of the Caribbean”, which includes the main island of Saint Vincent, sister islands Petit Martinique and Carriacou, as well as a sprinkling of other islands known as the Grenadines, providing the perfect opportunity to take short boat rides for day trips to the untouched islands nearby.

The new resort will be just a short drive from the newly constructed Argyle International Airport and will sit on 40 lush acres, hugged by the Caribbean Sea and nestled within a mountain range and neighbouring rainforest.

With its superb location, unique array of amenities, and one, two, and three-bedroom villas, it will be the perfect destination for families and extended families of all sizes to reconnect and create memorable experiences.

There is no official opening date as yet but watch this space. And for any further information on any of these exciting new openings or to discuss anything Sandals or Beaches related, please get in touch.
