Veena and her family have been valued clients for over ten years and I felt very moved and privileged to be asked to take care of her travel plans for a courageous solo trip to mark the one-year passing of her late husband…
I wanted to commemorate the first anniversary of my husband’s passing by returning to Dubai for a week.
We had been wanting to go back since our first trip in 2018 which was also booked with Susan and decided that after the Covid restrictions were lifted, it was the first place we would go. I knew that Susan would understand, be able to help me book this trip, and make it memorable.
The most important part of the brief was to be within walking distance to the main areas of JBR (Jumeirah Beach Residence) and this was met perfectly, staying at JA Ocean View Hotel, just a short walk from the beach and amenities.
I flew directly from Heathrow with Emirates, which as always was great, and I had booked window seats both ways. I had half-expected delays at Heathrow due to Covid protocols, but everything went smoothly.
Susan had arranged private transfers, something I always prefer to do if possible as it's so much more convenient after a long flight and it’s nice to get to the hotel as quickly as possible.
The hotel was exactly what I wanted for this trip. The staff were super welcoming, and check-in was incredibly quick with my room immediately ready.
I didn't need anything overly luxurious, but in Dubai everything is bigger and better so my room and facilities were amazing. I could walk to the beach and restaurants in a few minutes, so it was perfect.
It was a perfect location for my first trip alone as I knew I would feel safe as a solo female traveller. Restaurants, shisha cafes and staff everywhere made me feel welcome and I didn’t feel uncomfortable at any point.
I joined a group tour of Old Dubai, meeting some great people, some of whom I met up with again later in the week.
Emirates had kindly provided a free ticket to Dubai Expo, so that was a nice bonus and a very enjoyable visit.
Global Village was one of the trip highlights with amazing food from all over the world and spectacular live performers.
This trip was far more about relaxing as we had done most of the main tourist attractions on the previous visit and it did everything that I wanted it to.
The return journey went equally smoothly. Dubai airport has superb duty-free offerings, and Emirates also provide a quick self-check-in/ luggage drop.
As always, Susan worked with the ideas I had in mind and was able to find something perfect within my budget. I have mentioned her to many friends. With her extensive knowledge and personal touch, it's a pleasure booking holidays with her😊.
