Lucy’s dad is one of my long-standing clients, so I was over the moon when she asked me to help plan her honeymoon. Lucy and her husband, Richard, were looking to kick-start married life with two relaxing weeks in the sun.
They had a few destinations in mind but settled on the beautiful island of Antigua. Lucy was kind enough to share her experience…
It's honeymoon time!
The brief we gave Susan was a place we had never been and somewhere that we could relax that was ‘honeymoon material’.
We saw Antigua on the TV show, Below Deck, and thought it looked amazing. Susan had seen the show too so understood what we had in mind.
We got married in April 2022 and jetted off shortly after, flying from London Heathrow direct to Antigua with Virgin Atlantic.
Susan was amazing throughout the whole booking process, setting up a honeymoon fund so our wedding guests could contribute to our trip and informing the hotel that we were celebrating, which resulted in us being upgraded to a beach-view room.
We stayed at the Pineapple Beach Club, a fabulous all-inclusive adults-only hotel with great food and drink - the Miami Vice cocktail was divine! They don’t measure the alcohol in their drinks, so in true holiday style, there’s fun to be had day and night!
The pool bar, Pelican Snack Grill, is amazing with great lunchtime snacks on offer. Pineapple Grill Restaurant & Bar is also lovely with a selection of international and Caribbean cuisine.
In the room, we had a beautiful beach balcony where we sat with our cocktails in the evening and watched volleyball - occasionally, we joined in too!
The hotel arranged a walk to 'Devil's Bridge', a natural rock formation located just outside the village of Willikies. It was a very well-organised excursion, which is no surprise because the hotel staff were fantastic.
We also paid a visit to Stingray City where you can snorkel on the coral reefs and interact with the stingrays. It was definitely worth a trip if you’re visiting the island.
We made use of the spa, which had a range of treatments available, and hired a car which was a wonderfully fun day out. Luckily, Antigua drives on the same side of the road as the UK.
We brought a paper map with us, which I would highly recommend so you don't use all your mobile data. We travelled all over the island, visiting Nelson’s Dockyard and Dennis Beach Bar on Ffryes Beach to watch the sunset. 100% worth a visit!
We wanted a truly relaxing holiday and Susan delivered. Antigua is an amazing place with very friendly people, and we felt very safe throughout the trip.
If you’re about to get married and are looking for honeymoon ideas, Antigua is the place to go!
